At Worthinghead, the wellbeing of our whole community is important. We have teaching support staff in all classrooms to provide additional help with children's work, wellbeing and learning. We also have additional staff to offer emotional support to the children, including Mrs Tremayne our Inclusion Mentor and Mrs Leng who is the school's Mental Health Champion.
Mrs Leng receives regular training from the Education Psychology team to work with children who need this specialist support. Within this role, Mrs Leng implements whole school relaxation and mindfulness activities. These sessions encourage staff and children to stop and pause, allowing time to reflect and to be more self-aware.
We are also very lucky to have animals in school as part of an on-going provision for wellbeing and mental health. Children who are incredibly anxious or upset are encouraged to spend a few minutes with the guinea pigs or chickens. With some of our children experiencing challenges outside school, being able to come and relax and even share their thoughts with the pets can provide some much-needed comfort and time to reflect.
