Curriculum Intent statement
At Worthinghead Primary School we want our children to have access to a broad curriculum that opens up the world to them. We aim to offer experiences in the local area and beyond so they see what goes on in the wider world and aspire to be a part of it. We will share British Values so they grow to be active and committed members of society.
The curriculum covers the range of numeracy and literacy skills so they will have a solid platform for moving on to secondary school or the world of work beyond. We intend to teach them to be confident, self-assured and aspirational for their futures and to have the oracy skills to articulate their views.
By the time children leave Worthinghead Primary School they will know:
about different periods of history that have shaped the world today.
the way settlements have evolved within their environments and the physical features of our local, national and global landscapes.
about famous people who have made positive contributions in science, art, music, design and history.
scientific knowledge to help them make sense of the world in which they live.
how to use their skills to communicate in writing, computer presentations and artwork.
how to consider different opinions or aspects of a problem before developing solutions or models and be able to reflect and evaluate on their success.
how to act to keep themselves safe, both online and within different social situations, eg dealing with peer pressure, and how to develop healthy relationships with others.
about peoples’ beliefs and values locally and around the world and understand how they may differ from their own.
how to keep themselves fit and lead a lifestyle that is healthy, both physically and mentally.
How to communicate in basic French and understand the similarities and differences of the French culture from British.
