Statement of Intent
At Worthinghead, we believe that the study of RE is an important part of developing children’s sense of identity and belonging and their understanding of the communities in which they and others live. We aim to raise their awareness, respect and understanding of others, including people with different faiths and beliefs and prejudices they may face, so that by the end of Key Stage 2, they can make increasingly mature judgements about the world around them.
Through the teaching of RE, we want to encourage empathy, generosity and compassion and develop values that reflect our school’s FRIEND ethos. We teach about the six main religions (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism) as well as non-religious views such as Humanism and pupils will learn about different belief systems, rituals and festivals.
