Statement of Intent
When our children leave Worthinghead, we expect them to be able readers and writers. We know them well and have listened to them carefully. We have created a curriculum that introduces them to a variety of books with a range of interest. We want them to enjoy reading for pleasure and use the vocabulary and imagination they are exposed to, in their own writing. We want children to be familiar with a range of texts and have the confidence to apply these features in their own pieces of writing. We want children to take pride in their work, using their neatest handwriting and edit work for themselves. We aim to expose them to a wide range of vocabulary so that they can use it when speaking and writing formally and informally. We expect children to use these skills across all of the curriculum.
English lessons are taught daily in our school. We make sure children have chance to read engaging texts, learn new vocabulary and develop the skills they need to become coherent, confident writers.
